Preparing for Spring Break
Feb. 23, 2013—A week from today, I will be on a plane on my way to Los Angeles for my spring break vacation.
A Saturday of Service
Sep. 25, 2012—This past weekend, I volunteered at the Second Harvest Food Bank sorting meat in a giant refrigerator.
Habitat for Humanity Builds
Sep. 24, 2012—One of the student organizations I have become passionate about during my time at Vanderbilt is Habitat for Humanity. I went from being on the Junior Exec Board to becoming a fundraising chair and running the Commodore Trot 5k for two years, to finally becoming one of the co-presidents. It may not be your favorite...
TIMAV: Dismas House
Sep. 22, 2012—I know I’ve written before about my weekly outings to Dismas House, but I thought you all could use a reminder about this great service opportunity so near to campus. It’s definitely my favorite extracurricular activity, other than telling you all about my life through this blog. I also really missed it while abroad.
Student Org. Fair
Aug. 22, 2012—Welcome back! In preparation for the new school year, don’t forget the most exciting part — the Student Organization Fair! It is going to take place on Friday August 24th outside of the Commons Center from 3-6pm. Each year, over 100 of Vanderbilt’s student organizations set up booths to show the incoming freshmen and transfer...
We’re All In This Together
Aug. 19, 2012—On Friday, the upperclassmen ventured out of Main Campus, ready and eager to unite for the Common(s) cause of Move-In! We received half sheets of rules, which taught us things like, “Hangovers aren’t fun at 6:15 A.M.” which was our appallingly early check-in time, and gave us pictured instructions like, “Squat to pick up boxes,” which almost inspired my friends and I to create a goofy how-to video. After a few motivational speeches from the Heads of Houses, we stampeded the Commons Centers to pick up our awesome Move Crew shirts.
Commons is ALIVE!
Aug. 18, 2012—After an entire summer suffering empty dorms, quiet afternoons, and un-played with lawns, the subtle life that has ruled the Commons has been thwarted by the Class of 2016! Yes, today was the highly anticipated Commons move-in day. Convoys of Vanderbilt family cars infiltrated every parking lot, the madness of the move commencing at 7AM...
Home at Last!
Aug. 8, 2012—I made it back to the USA. I’m safe and sound, but missing Peru terribly. By completely immersing myself into Peruvian culture, I learned so much about family, healthcare, and about myself. And now, I finally have some pictures to prove it!
I’m Still in Peru, and Loving It!
Jul. 31, 2012—Hello again from Lima! This weekend was my last in Peru, as I return home this Friday night. This weekend, we celebrated Peruvian independence day and a small group of us volunteers decided to travel down to the Peruvian desert oasis called Huacachina.
Hola from Peru!
Jul. 20, 2012—Hello hello! I am currently sitting in my room in my new home in Lima, Peru. I am staying with a host family for three weeks, as I volunteer in a medical clinic.
Random Vandy Memory That Popped Into My Head Today
Jul. 10, 2012—I successfully donated blood for the second time today! I say “successfully” because there’s a funny story about that. The first time I tried to donate, my iron level was too low, and the second time I could only fill half a bag so the nurses gave up.
Be Our Guest
Jul. 1, 2012—Boston! Serving at Starlight Ministries, going on a non-kayaking extravaganza, going to Costco, and more fun things!
