Nov. 16, 2012—I have been on a very looooong blog hiatus, but no worries, I did not forget about you guys! I do have one big update about my 3rd semester at Vanderbilt..
Symphonie Fantastique
Nov. 7, 2012—So what better for Blair kids to do on their Friday night than go to the Schermerhorn Symphony Center for a delightful evening of music? We boarded the bus downtown, and when we arrived, we saw around half of our school there. From the pianists to violists to vocalists to horn players, the Blair School of Music had invaded the Nashville Symphony. Yes, that is what we music majors do to kick off our weekends.
Lights on the Lawn
Oct. 11, 2012—Next Friday there won’t be a single fraternity party–something almost unheard of for a Vanderbilt weekend. Instead, the Greek community is coming together to present Lights on the Lawn, a concert series benefiting the recovery effort of one of our own.
Blair Concert the First
Sep. 17, 2012—I'm not good at estimating, so I'll safely guess between 30 and 8,000 people showed up for Blair's first concert. But actually, Ingram was absolutely packed. Not even when Audra McDonald or the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet came was there an audience such as this. Apparently, people even had to listen to and watch the concert from the lobby telly, it was so full! Success! People finally realizing and taking advantage of the free Blair concerts!
RITES OF SPRING 2012!
Feb. 28, 2012—As the short winter here begins to fade and we start to get some random 75 and sunny days–typical of Nashville in the springtime–students start to anticipate the announcement of the Rites of Spring lineup….And I’m happy to announce that it’s OUT!!
Vandy Loves T-Swift
Nov. 22, 2011—After the end of freshman year, I realized that I wasn’t taking full advantage of all the opportunities that Music City has to offer. So, this year when I was booking my flights back to school, I checked Ticketmaster to see if there were any good concerts. Sure enough, Taylor Swift was playing at the...
The Avett Brothers Concert
Oct. 29, 2011—Last night I went to see one of my new favorite bands, The Avett Brothers, in concert downtown. The best part is, not only did I get to see them live, but I was actually required to see this concert for a class! One of the assignments for my History of Country Music is that...
A Concert in Class?
Oct. 12, 2011—This semester one of my favorite classes that I am taking is History of Country Music. During class we learn about various artists and movements that have helped shape country music over the past century, as well as what classifies music as “country.” Before taking this class, I knew that I liked country music, but...
Homework: Go to a Concert
Feb. 23, 2011—I am taking an awesome class this semester! History of Rock Music. Not only is it really fun and interesting but it also counts as part of my Liberal Arts requirements. In class we talk about specific artists ranging from the 1950s to current times including Little Richard, Elvis, Otis Redding, Grateful Dead, Lynard Skynard,...
