School is Cool. Like, Actually.

Dec. 6, 2014—So I just finished my last class of the semester. I am not an emotional person, but I swear to you, the last meetings of some of my classes made me irrationally sad. Maybe I’m really invested in my classes, or maybe I’m just a nerd, but regardless, I just need to take a moment...

Blurring the Color Lines

Nov. 10, 2014—Do you prefer to date within or outside of your race––or do you care at all? Why? These were the questions posed to panelists at this evening’s event, “Blurring the Color Lines,” presented by NAACP and co-sponsored by the Caribbean Student Association and the Department of African-American & Diaspora Studies at Vanderbilt. I wanted to...

Everyone knows about Vanderbilt's contributions to football and academics, but hardly anyone knows about its awesome theatre department! This year they brought in many new features that I have been able to work with, and I wanted to share some of those stories with y'all!

Guest Lecture at the Curb Center

Feb. 18, 2014—This year, the Communication Studies department moved to the Curb Center. I am not going to lie. When I first heard that my classes were neither going to be on main campus nor on commons, but rather in a totally separate location, I was pretty upset. I had no desire to walk almost a mile each way to and from class. I also feared that I would always be late for lunch plans. But, the new space is definitely worth it. In addition is new classrooms, the Communications office suite actually houses the entire department. There is also a great auditorium where the department can host speakers, which brings me to the point of this post.

Memoirs or How I Learned to Write About Other People

Dec. 16, 2013—This semester I had the pleasure of taking an intermediate nonfiction workshop with Sandy Solomon. Centered on memoir- and profile-writing, we became acquainted with the craft of “writing about other people.” I have had my fair share of journaling enterprises, but they all came to sad untimely demises a few entries after their inception. This...

The Train Wreck that was Corporate Strategy, and How I Survived

Dec. 10, 2013—A lot of my life here at Vanderbilt revolves around group projects, which, day-to-day, looks like 10:45 pm meetings, Google Docs galore, throwing PowerPoints together like nobody's business, team evaluations, and projects that eat up your life. But you really shouldn't fret! I've compiled a guide to getting through group projects without too many scratches. After all, everyone says that business in the real world is just a giant group project. OH YAY.
