Running the Extra Mile

Dec. 17, 2014—There are so many different ways to enjoy a Vanderbilt class. An awesome professor, an engaging subject or topic, inspiring and industrious peers - you name it. Something which can frequently add a lot to what you get out of a class - and is simply often not duly recognized - is an "extra-credit" assignment. The reason why these tasks can get so interesting is because they can be such a contrast to our everyday work in the class.

My First Thanksgiving Dinner!

Dec. 16, 2014—Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday to "thank," or be grateful for, the harvest of the previous year. Thanksgiving is a very North American tradition, and most international students do not know much about it. As for myself, celebrating an American tradition for the first time could not be better than a dinner at the Cones' (Faculty Apartment of Murray House).

Hey ED1, Now You’re In On the Fun!

Dec. 14, 2014—Judging by the flood of nostalgia, photos of younger siblings sporting Vandy gear and admissions letters (via email now — when did that happen?!), and statuses tagging the newest crop of Commodores on all of my social media feeds, ED1 decisions are here! As I get closer and closer to senior status (and then the...

I’m giving myself permission to be cheesy because it’s winter break, a time of sappy family scenes and affection. So...

Sami Reads the Viewbook

Dec. 12, 2014—Now that I’ve been home for almost a week with no schoolwork (wait, what?), and have been trapped inside by a lovely and uncharacteristic California rainstorm, I’ve starting coming up with some pretty nerdy ways to entertain myself. And I missed my Vanderbilt so much that I decided to dig up the viewbook they sent...

Confession: Finals Week is My Favorite

Dec. 12, 2014—Now don't go yelling at me just yet. Hear me out. I dislike taking finals as much as the next yahoo, but I can't get enough of finals week itself. Imagine a time when all of your friends are close by, study breaks are many and encouraged, and the parade of coffee, desserts, and junk food is endless. Welcome to finals week.
