So Long, Farewell!

May. 6, 2014—Within a two week span, I was "sent off" by three organizations very near and dear to my heart: BCM, Cru, and Masala SACE. It so odd to know that it's actually my turn to be sent-off, but it was so encouraging and humbling to be recognized by these three amazing organizations!

Final Traditions

May. 6, 2014—As I mentioned in a previous post (better late than never, right?) second semester holds quite a few of my favorite Vanderbilt traditions. Two that I haven't talked about yet are Rites of Spring and the annual Black and Gold game!!

Soccer Senior Send-off

May. 6, 2014—As the year wound (winds? I refused to admit it's over.) down, most of the organizations I'm involved in on campus held various activities in order to "send off" the seniors. Now, part of me refused to acknowledge that this included ME (wow, gee wiz, golly wolly, etc.), but that went out the window the second I got the invite for the senior send-off for the club soccer team.

Marathon Summer: Unconventional Engineering

May. 2, 2014—*Guest blog by my roommate and fellow burger-enthusiast, Mary Kate Hardy Last semester I discovered one of the hidden gems of engineering in the form of a Biomedical Engineering elective course, titled Service Learning in Guatemala. This course included a trip to Guatemala over Spring Break to repair and service medical equipment. Never have I had more fun in an engineering class. The hands-on learning experience was incredible, and fine dining and zip lining with your professors was a blast too.

Study Abroad without Studying Abroad

May. 2, 2014—If you’ve ever spent at least 60 seconds with a college student who has studied abroad, chances are that they told you the story of how (insert country here) changed their life for the better. Reflecting upon my semester in Chicago doing my HOD internship, I’ve realized that I have almost had that same study abroad experience (minus the abroad part, of course). Experiencing a new city gave me the chance to take a step away from Vandy, try out the whole independence thing, and eat some of the best food I’ve ever had.

‘ll Miss the Most From School

May. 2, 2014—So I’ve been home for approximately thirty hours, meaning that I’ve had sufficient time to soak it all in and start what is sure to be a long three and a half months pining for school to reopen (yes, I am completely serious, and yes, if you had told me I would feel this way two years ago I would have laughed in your face). Fortunately for you guys, I’ve decided to channel this longing into something productive (if you told me that a week ago when I was holed up in a study carrel in Stevenson, I also would’ve laughed in your face), and have come up with the three things I miss about being at school:

Just a few weeks ago, Blair students competed in two competitions: the Music Teachers National Association's Divisional Chamber Music Competition and Vanderbilt University's Concerto Competition. Success prevailed!
