Carolyn, Does the admissions staff have any idea what percentage of students who were wait-listed will be offered admission into Vandy? We’ve been reading all the acceptance letters and I have to admit there is a certain amount of envy. Regardless, our high school senior is undaunted and still hopeful that there will be room for one more National Merit Finalist next year in Nashville.

Hi Greg,
It would be difficult for me to give you that particular percentage, as the number of students on the wait list will fluctuate drastically over the next several weeks. I can tell you that, over the last few years, about 10% of the Vanderbilt freshman class has been admitted via the wait list.

Hi Carolyn! I really enjoyed this piece and reading the opinions of those working in a college admissions office on the fact vs. fiction of the admissions process. I think that Truth Six is the more relatable one to me. Last year, Vanderbilt was a dream to be accepted to; sadly though, I did not make the Fall 2012 class. I was disappointed to say the least, but I made the best of the situation and have been succeeding phenomenally at my current university. Still, this year I applied as a transfer student to Vanderbilt because I believe it is where I’d fit in best. I hope that one day I will “end up” at your campus and we can learn together!!

Any sense of engineering students who may be offered admission?

Could you clarify your question?

Hi Carolyn! Love this article. I haven’t seen the movie, but now I will have to! I am the parent of a graduating Vanderbilt University senior and I am wondering how long you have been the Admissions counselor for the DFW area?
April 19th, 2013
Carolyn is on vacation for a few days, but I didn’t want your comment to rest unanswered! She’s been the counselor for DFW for just under two years.

Hi Ryan, Thank you for answering in Carolyn’s stead. Your courtesy is appreciated. As I mentioned, I have a Vanderbilt senior, which means she was a high school senior during the 08/09 school year. Do you know who was the admissions counselor for the DFW area was at that time? THANKS!
April 23rd, 2013
No problem! I’ve asked around and it seems like either Mike Drish or our director John Gaines would’ve served the DFW area at that time.

hmmm…. Sorry to be high maintenance, but is it possible to find out for sure or to share their email addresses with me so that I may ask? I would like to send a thank you letter. As I look forward to commencement, I can’t help look back with gratitude to all those who helped make this day reality.

That’s very kind of you. Which high school did your daughter attend? It’s possible that her counselor no longer works here, but I’ll do my best to track the name down!

I have spoken with our director and he’s certain it would’ve either been Mike Drish or Chancey Phillips Thompson, both of whom no longer for our office. I’m sorry I couldn’t be of any further assistance!
