Random Things I Love about Vandy
May. 19, 2017—1. Rand bowls These things are magical. The long rand bowl line proves it. The intensely dedicated rand bowl lady also bolsters the fact. What are rand bowls, you ask? They are the nutritious grain-protein-veggie masterpieces of Rand dining center. You pick between quinoa and freekeh for your grain, chicken, steak, or vegan steak for...
What is a Wilskill?
Dec. 4, 2015—What does somebody mean on campus when they say they are in Wilskills? Hint: it means they love to play outside...
After WilSkills
Aug. 27, 2014—The outdoor recreation experience at Vanderbilt goes beyond WilSkills. Read more for a list of all the cheap/free ways to get involved and get outside!
Messing with Nature
May. 8, 2014—A post-Finals celebration was in order this weekend, so my friends, Mad Crank and Money, and I road-tripped to Kentucky, where we encountered lots of trees and lots of rocks. It was awesome.
A WilSkills-Wonderful Weekend
Feb. 10, 2014—This weekend, I had yet another WilSkills adventure. In a group of eleven, I backpacked the Spence-Russell Loop and part of the AT to Mollie's Field Shelter, a fifteen-mile round-trip. We hiked through rushing mountain streams, through frozen snow and through low clouds. We gave each other nicknames and threw snowballs.
Wilderness Skills 101: Backpacking
Feb. 2, 2014—This past weekend I joined nine other Vanderbilt students for a romp in the North Carolina woods. In short, we drove to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, hiked Saturday and Sunday morning, and then returned in time for the Super Bowl/homework.
Treeking

I'm calling it now: treeking started here. If you were wondering about the etymology of "treeking," the words "tree" and "freaking" were combined one day in the fall at Vanderbilt to describe the state of a particular student. So treeking is exactly that: freaking out about trees.
Row, Row, Row Your Boat
Sep. 14, 2013—Kayaking down the Harpeth River kicks off a semester with the Outdoor Recreation Center at Vanderbilt.
Note to self: slow down
Sep. 13, 2012—Four weeks into the semester. By now, most of us are probably already busy taking our first test or handing in that first essay assignment for class. As professors slowly start picking up the pace of the semester by increasing our workload, a lot of us can't help but let the stress accumulate. Anxiety level? Very high. Things on my to-do list for the weekend? Very full.
… To The Top!
Jun. 27, 2012—Read about what I did when not sawing away at my cello. There were hikes, letter-writing, and other fun activities! Pictures included!
Close to Nature
Apr. 15, 2012—Last weekend, I went home for Easter weekend in order to spend the holiday with my parents. However, I brought two friends along so that they could experience the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
The One Question Every Prospective Student Wants to Know
Mar. 19, 2012—Besides “how’s the food here?”– there is one question that is central to any prospective (or simply curious) student’s inquiries. I’m here to answer for you, in my humble opinion.
