Vanderbilt Restaurant Week
Oct. 2, 2013—From haute cuisine to the food truck scene, Nashville has a thriving culinary community. But at Vanderbilt you don’t have to go off campus to get great food. Jay takes a taste of campus dining options for you this week.
‘ Last Parents Weekend
Oct. 2, 2013—My parents came to parents weekend my first year at Vanderbilt, but they have not been to parents weekend since. Honestly, parents weekend is more crowded and busy than most, so my parents try and come when things are calmer (and they can hang out with all of my friends). This year, however, they decided to brave the crowds as it was my sister's first parents weekend.
Blood, Sweat, and Tears (Minus the Sweat and Tears)
Oct. 1, 2013—I'm not quite sure how it happened, but since coming to Vandy, giving blood has become one of my favorite pastimes. Savin' lives left and right; you can't stop me. This is probably the most bizarre confession I've ever made, but hey, is there an easier act of service than sitting in a comfy chair, sipping Sprite while nice nurses take fluids out of your arm?
Visions of Sushi!
Sep. 30, 2013—Last week, I spent an amazing hour with my Visions group making sushi, sharing the highs and lows of our week and simply having a good time!
My On-Campus Job is the Bomb-Diggity
Sep. 29, 2013—Having a job in college sounds like a drag, but it really doesn't have to be. This is the first semester I've had a job on campus, and let me tell ya, it is a piece of cake. I am working for Vanderbilt Technology Support Services (TSS for short) in various free computer labs located across campus, but the day-to-day operations of this "job" are sitting at a desk and doing my homework, occasionally giving creepy grins to the people walking into the lab.
An Afternoon Hike
Sep. 28, 2013—Vandy has been covered in parents this weekend because it's Parents Weekend! This is the first Parent's Weekend that my parents haven't come, so instead I get to be adopted by my friends' parents and meet their families. Saturday afternoon, I went on a hike with my roommate Jodi, her mother, and one of our suitemates, Kelsey.
The First VUT Play of the Season
Sep. 26, 2013—Tonight, I attended opening night of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead performed by Vanderbilt University Theater. I try to go to as many plays as I can but I made a special effort to attend this one for two reasons. First, later in this semester, I will be reading the play in one of my classes. Second, two of the actors in the play are in that same class.
Let the Games Begin
Sep. 26, 2013—In this post, I present to you a quick recap of the Women's Club Soccer team's season so far and a convincing plea for you all to come out to our games this weekend if you're in the area.
A Day in the Life of Eileen, Part 2
Sep. 26, 2013—After describing a typical day for me last February, I figured I'd do it again this semester!
Vanderbilt Brings Out My Inner Cookie Monster
Sep. 25, 2013—With words like "free," "milk," and "cookies," it didn't take much to convince me to stop by the Commons lawn yesterday.
Free Flu Shots!
Sep. 25, 2013—Today was Vanderbilt's annual Flulapalooza, a huge campaign through which all Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff are invited (encouraged, actually) to get a free flu shot. The campaign started three years ago, and last year we broke the world record for most flu shots given in a single-day campaign.
An ExTAYLORdinary Night
Sep. 24, 2013—Get it? Extraordinary+Taylor? I’m not very creative. But it’s ok. Anyways, last week I talked about how I WON tickets through the Vanderbilt ResEd’s Commodore Cruise program. Well, despite an Anatomy Exam the next morning, I went to Taylor Swift and had an extraordinary experience. Although the average age of everyone at the concert was...
