More Fun Than I Thought Possible: Fall SPOTS (Part 1)
Oct. 23, 2013—Students do a whole host of things during fall break. A few stay put on campus, some go home, and others go on fun short trips. This year I finally joined some of my good friends on the annual Fall SPOTS trip!
Why Vanderbilt: A Musician’s Perspective, Part 1
Oct. 22, 2013—Usually at the end of sophomore year, when we have to choose our majors, we hit a wall. We figuratively hit it really hard. We come to that point where we ask ourselves the academic existentialist question, "Why am I in school?" For me, specifically, it was the question, "What I am doing.... as a musician?"
Let Them Eat Cake
Oct. 22, 2013—Yesterday was a great day due to the fact that I got free cake not once, but twice! If I haven't said it enough, I love sugar, so I'm all over the scene when there is free dessert. When I got two emails yesterday telling me that there would be free cake for biomedical engineers and at my sorority, I was really excited and naturally went to both.
Written in the Stars
Oct. 22, 2013—We did it. On Saturday, the Vanderbilt Commodores defeated the Georgia Bulldogs in an exciting 31-27 win.
All About Frisbee
Oct. 20, 2013—I realized while I tend to blog a lot about my life on the frisbee field, everyone might not understand the rules and thus appreciate how AWESOME ultimate frisbee truly is. The rules took me a while to understand (and they are constantly changing, which isn't exactly helpful) but once you get it, the sport becomes so much more fun. Navs Fall Conference
Oct. 20, 2013—I was super excited for fall break this year because I went on Navs Fall Conference and got to see a lot of people from the program (STP) I did over the summer. Normally, Fall Conference is just a random weekend in the fall and we travel down on Friday. Since it was over fall break this year, over 120 people from Vandy Navs headed down on Thursday to enjoy the outdoors.
The Art of Patronage: The Musical Edition
Oct. 18, 2013—This event, for two hours on Friday night, marks the first night of the Blair Salon Series, a program successfully piloted last year. Around 30 people gathered at Dean Wcislo's house––performers, professors, and students from every college––for an evening of chamber music. The music was centered on fairy tales, partly as foreshadowing for the upcoming production of "Into the Woods" by Vanderbilt Opera, and partly as celebration of quirky, wonderful feats of imagination.
I GOT INTO MED SCHOOL!
Oct. 16, 2013—I thought that I would never see the day. I actually got into medical school. The University of Florida College of Medicine called me this morning to notify me that I have a place in their class of 2018. I nearly fainted when I heard the news.
Don Quixote and Experimental Fiction
Oct. 15, 2013—This semester, my classes are actually fun. I know, it seems strange, but they really are! Now that I have fulfilled the majority of my graduation requirements, I can take classes that interest me. One of my favorites, is an honors seminar called “Don Quixote and Experimental Fiction.” As I mentioned in my last blog...
Midterm Fall Sports Update
Oct. 15, 2013—With homecoming and Fall Break now in the rearview mirror, we’ve entered the stretch of the fall semester when Vanderbilt students get a reality check in the form of midterm exams. In the same spirit, here’s a quick midterm check-in on the progress of Commodore student athletes this semester.
