When do the decisions get sent out?

My daughter was accepted Early Decision I and we are eagerly awaiting the acceptance packet in April. I was just wondering why colleges send out far more acceptance letters to prospective students than they have room for. How do colleges know that a certain amount will turn down the acceptance?

    Baron,

We look at multiple years worth of data on how many students accept our offers of admission. The analysis even gets into the type of admitted student they are (whether we’re giving them a merit scholarship, whether they are an admitted ED student, etc). Based on this information, we make an educated yield estimation.

    Hope this helps,
    Thom

I think it is quiet in here because everyone is waiting for a post on the notification date, am I right? It must be coming up soon!

Could you comment on the current status of admissions decisions? Do you think notifications will be sent out prior to April 1st this year?
    Thank you!

    Hey folks,

I posted an update on where we stand on mailing our decisions. Good news! So far we’re on schedule for a Friday March 26 mailing. I’ll keep you posted as the week progresses.
