I was told at an informational meeting before a tour that you can make your own majors by picking courses that are available at Vanderbilt and meshing them into your own major. Is this true? I want to major possibly in environmental studies, but Vanderbilt only has environmental science.

Hi. Yes, this is absolutely true, students are allowed to individually design their own major with the guidance and approval of faculty. If you are interested in the details, check out the undergraduate catalog, where you can learn more about individually designed interdisciplinary majors (check page 88 for the College of Arts and Science, for example). The catalog is also a great place to look at the wealth of academic offerings at Vanderbilt. If you have more questions about specifics, be sure to contact your admissions counselor.
